I have an Angel in my pocket
And a Devil near my ear.
I try to do what Goodness says,
But the Other sits so near.
The Devil speaks when the morning comes
Saying "Let's just stay in bed."
But Goodness whispers, "Don't be late."
Their arguing hurts my head.
I snuggle in and the Devil yawns,
But the Angel's watching out.
She quickly pokes me in the ribs
And erases all my doubt.
"We can have some cake for breakfast now."
But the Angel chimes right in
"You'll have a good meal, silly girl."
The Devil has lost his grin.
The chocolate cake is tempting me
And the Devil urges too.
The Angel seems so silly then
When she says, "Ignore him, fool!"
The debate goes on throughout the day,
I listen to their suggestions.
But in the end, when faced with doubt,
I ignore both their questions.
My life is mine and I choose the things
That make my day seem brighter.
Sometimes I do the wrong thing now,
But next time I'll do righter.
