Desperation
She was only sixteen when the baby came,
She married the father to give it a name.
The marriage failed as they often do.
How does a child take care of two?
She worked very hard to make ends meet.
At times she thought they'd live in the street.
The boy left town to start life again
Which left her alone in pain with no end.
She promised herself to always be true
To the person inside and the baby, too.
But often despair would steal through the night
While she lay in the bed with pillow held tight.
And then she would dream of the life she would live
When she found a man to whom she could give
The worries she feared and the heart in her breast,
A man who would praise her for doing her best.
But fairy tales seldom ever come true
As the girl finally found what she needed to do.
She packed away dreams and hopes for new life
She sold herself out and took her own life.
