Jealousy

The ancient enemy rears her head
And turns green eyes to me.
She leers and issues a throaty roar--
Her victim has been seen.

Cunning and hateful, knowing no bounds,
She stalks her prey with glee.
She enfolds my heart in writhing coils
And bares her fangs for me.

Poison is dripping, eyes are glinting,
She poises herself to leap.
The prey, unwary, has stopped to smile,
The fangs sink in so deep.

The victim falters, then rushes on,
But poison does its work.
The awful sting of potent venom
Causes a deadly hurt.

Jealousy, you beautiful curse,
Why do you use my name?
I wait here hopeful for your return
To Hell from whence you came.
